CWG Library Item No. 108

For wood workers and do-it-yourselfers across Canada and the United States, the name Rosendahl is a familiar one . It was inevitable that the father and son team of Bob and Rick would combine their talents to produce what may well become the standard project workbook for router enthusiasts. Router Projects and Jigs will easily find a prominent place in most workshops. In it readers will find, in easy-to-read terms, the experience Bob and Rick have accumulated over the years. Bob's 18 years in construction and his 25 years of teaching vocational school, 20 of which were spent teaching future teachers, are captured in this book. Rick combines his considerable talents as a woodworker with his experience in the classroom to bring a special approach to what used to be complicated procedures. Bob and Rick spend a good part of their lives on the road attending woodworking shows, exhibitions and conducting seminars. Each summer they conduct several "hands on" router workshops which attract students (many of them successful in business and professions) to Winnipeg for a week of router work. Both are prominent members of the family business, Oak Park Enterprises, which is located in Elie, Manitoba. Although primarily a how-to book filled with projects that you can produce with your router for your home, your office, your children and grandchildren, this book also contains a condensed course in the whole field of woodworking. You will find a section on how to choose the wood for your project, how to get that wood into shape so that you can begin the project itself (including the elimination of twists and warps) and how to add those touches that separate the work of the professional from that of the amateur. There is a special section on what to do, and what not to do when gluing pieces together. Another section deals with sizing, a most important part of the construction process. Each project is graded as to the skills you need to complete it, and each section in it contains a summary of what you will learn by building the projects. This book is a logical follow up to Bob Rosendahl's original book on the router, its uses and its capabilities. That book is now in its ninth printing. As you work your way through this book, you will find that your confidence in your ability to work with wood will grow with each project.
